Join the Reading Public Museum and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania as we help kick-off the 2012 Cookie Season! You will have the chance to enjoy creative activities, the collections and special exhibits at The Museum all with a “girl power” theme.

We’ll start with a story called Katie Meets the Impressionists. This tells the story of a young girl who visits a museum, steps inside a painting and discovers the wonders of art. We’ll take you a special tour highlighting the important women artists involved in the Impressionist style of painting and who are displayed in our exhibit American Impressionism: The Lure of the Artists’ Colony. We will show you that not only men at this time created beautiful and important artwork, but women also. One of the most important, famous and influential impressionist painters was a women. Her name was Mary Cassatt. Girl Scouts will also get the chance to participate (and recycle!) in a Girl Scout Cookie box art activity based on the storybook. Listen to the story reading at 11:30; take the special tour at 12:00; and make your art project at any time during the day.

This is a great time at the Museum for celebrating girls and the women they will become. Not only are women featured in the art but women made the art too! And while you are here, don’t forget to visit our most popular resident, our mummy Nefrina….she is also a woman! Find out about her life in Ancient Egypt.
